Who Is Corey Thompson?

October 26, 2010 by Staff, filed under Campaign News, Featured

Who is Corey Thompson?

You have heard the name on the radio, read it in the paper, but still you want to know more.  You’ve heard he is a teacher, and that he’s a part of a local conservative group called CAUTION, but that’s not enough.  He says he is a Republican and that he is proud to support the Tea Party movement, but what else?  Why should you support him in his run for County Commission?  Why should he get your vote?

I know why.

As his wife, I am privileged to witness who Corey Thompson is every day. After almost nine years of marriage, I can honestly say that he is the best man I have ever known.  He is supportive, honest even when I do not want to hear it, and always wants the best for me.  He is also an amazing father to our son, Charlie.  He is patient, consistent, and a true kid at heart.  Corey is a loyal friend, caring son, committed teacher, quiet listener, and a passionate fighter for what he believes.

You may still say, so what?  What better person would you want serving you on the County Commission?  Every trait that he is to me and to my family, he would be to you, because that is who Corey Thompson is.  He does not save his best for those he loves.  He gives his best to anyone and everything he does.  I said he was honest, supportive, patient, consistent, loyal, caring, committed, a listener, and a fighter.  Imagine having someone leading our great county, making decisions for you, that displayed those qualities.  What a great leader he would be.  Thankfully, you do not have to imagine.  There is one, and his name is Corey Thompson.

I know Corey Thompson through C.A.U.T.I.O.N. When Corey speaks of Presidents Washington and Regan you know that his passion is with great leadership. He leads with this passion to be honest, compassionate, responsible and conservative with his leadership. I trust Corey Thompson to make the right decisions for Mecklenburg County for its growth in the right direction.

I know both Corey and Jenny Thompson, I can remember being one of the first students to hear about their engagement forever ago. I am priviledged to know both of them, and to have had them as a part of my learning and developing. I support Corey (Mr. T. as alot of his students call him) whole heartedly. He has always wanted nothing but the best for not only himself or his family but for everyone. Mr. T. is one man that can literally change the lives of everyone around him. He has the characteristics of a true leader, the heart, the knowledge, the courage, the will and most importantly the way. Like i said I know Corey Thompson and he would not take on a challenge like this unless he had a vision for Mecklenburg County. I have not lived in Mecklenburg County and been out of school for a few years now, but I will say it would’ve have been nice to have teachers and leaders alike, that resembled Corey Thompson. I was one of the few lucky ones that had Mr. T. as apart of my life. When I lost my father, Mr. T. was there for me no matter what. If I needed some advice or a swift kick to my tail (metaphorically speaking of course), or just some time alone, he was always there for me. So, it is my turn to offer the same, Mr. T., Corey Michael, Corey, C-dawg, so many ways to call you, but only one man deserves true loyalty, and that my friend is you. Whatever and whenever if I can do anything, please let me know.
Wishing you the best and knowing you won’t need it,
    Bryan Auten

When asked why he was running, Forrest Gump said, “I just felt like ruh-ning.” I know that Corey Thompson is no Forrest Gump. His decision to run for this office is a culmination of proven leadership in life situations that most folks would not have thought it worthy of their time, effort, and energy. In other words in situations that offer no apparent personal reward. As a colleague and friend I have seen first-hand that Corey inspires and motivates not through superficial promises and pretenses of care. He inspires and motivates by leading others to discover their life, liberty, and persuit of happiness through acts of service in the common good. Personally, I have contempt for and contend with the nanny-state politics that foster dependency upon government and in so doing lead us down a path to tyranny, demoralization and loss of liberty. This is not how Corey has lived his life. I know that it won’t be the way he leads mine.

corey is an amazing person he was my history teacher and basketball coach in the 8th grade. he is honestly one of the very few teachers i have ever had that i thought of as a friend. he tought me a lot while in school but he taught me more on the court. he taught me how to think ahead, plan and execute, and most of all he taught me how to be a man. he was and still is a great role model for people of all ages and faiths.

I have known Corey since we both were in High School — we even graduated together. How old I feel as I realize how long ago that was! Although I have moved away from Mecklenburg County, Charlotte remains my true Hometown. It is exciting to find that the self-sacrificing servant that was the Corey Thompson I knew in High School is the same Corey Thompson who is preparing to serve my Hometown. I have never given financially to a political campaign….until today. Even though I am now stationed on another continent, I support Corey. The values he is championing are the values I whole-heartedly support, and I can think of no one else who stands for what I believe so perfectly with the experience and capabilities to make a difference in government that Corey possesses. Thank you, Corey, for stepping out and running for County Commission. And I put my money where my mouse is!

I have known Corey Thompson since he was in junior high and had the privilege of watching him grow and mature while he attended The Citadel. Believe me, I would highly recommend this young man!

As a past candidate for County Commission in 2008 and as a candidate in this years primary I have become very familiar with Corey and his campaign. Many times candidates will discuss with one another very important things that they think and believe. Having spoken with Corey on those occasions I can honestly say that he is who he says he is and not just a politician attempting to get himself elected. On primary night I found myself number 5 in a race that chose 3 candidates to run At-Large for the BOCC. One might assume that I was dismayed at not being one of the three but knowing that Corey would be one of the three had me very excited. We have a chance to elect a man here in Mecklenburg that believes in the people of Mecklenburg County, believes in doing the right thing and will follow his constituents will when it comes to governing. It is with a great deal of pride that I wholeheartedly endorse Corey Thompson and will continue to urge each and every voter in this county to follow suit and vote for COREY THOMPSON!
